Brand new copy of a spiral bound pictorial history book of the "Photographs of Three World Fairs in San Francisco".
Great gift idea for those who have a sweet spot for San Francisco's great history. Excellent coffee table book and conversation piece.
Beginning in 1894, San Francsico staged three world's fairs over a 45 year period.
1894-California Midwinter International Exposition...meant to show off the state's midwinter climate and thus attract new population. Its promoters touted California as the land of sunshine, fruit, and flowers.
1915-Panama Pacific International Exposition...hailed the completion of the Panama Canal. The fair's symbol was a colossal Hercules, performing his "thirteenth labor" by prying apart North and South America and thereby creating a navigational and trading shortcut from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
1939 to 1940-Golden Gate International Exposition...celebrated San Francisco's two great new bridges, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge, and took place in the middle of the Bay on a man-made island called "Treasure Island."
